  1. Welcome Week
    Description: Gather with other clubs and academic societies to get first and second year students involved.

  2. UTMAS Executive Committee Elections 
    Description: UTMAS will be hosting elections for this year’s executive positions.
    Date: Nominations must be submit by Sept 13

  3. Faculty “Speed Dating” *NEW*
    Description: Spend 2-5 minutes with UTM’s Anthropology Faculty, and learn more about their research, travels, and general interests. This event is meant to provide an informal environment for students to interact with their instructors.

  1. Fall Campus Day *NEW*
    Description: Fall Campus Day is a day which UTM will be open to public. UTMAS will be tabling with faculties from the Department of Anthropology to provide insight and share experiences  on anthropology to prospective students.

  2. UTMSU Halloween Haunted House *NEW*
    Description: This is a collaborative event with the UTM Student Union and other societies and clubs on campus. This year, UTMAS is teaming up with Forensic Society to bring the scariest Haunted House experience! It will provide a fun opportunity increase student awareness of the anthropology society and department.

  3. UTMSU Halloween Carnival *NEW*
    Description: This is a collaborative event with the UTM Student Union and other societies and clubs on campus. It will provide a fun opportunity increase student awareness of the anthropology society and department.

  1. Research Workshop *NEW*
    Description: This event is aimed to help students with their researching skills. Led by upper year students and research librarian, the workshop will touch base on reviewing  anthropology databases, going over google scholar, citation reference tools, and image citations

  2. Friday Night Live
    Description: This event is a unique social opportunity for anthropology students to interact with like-minded peers in an informal setting. This event is designed to allow students an occasion to de-stress for upcoming exams in the presence of various exhibits within The Royal Ontario Museum.

  1. Anthropology FSG (Study Session) – ANT102 Exam Preparation
    Description: This event will be run in conjunction with the Academic Skills Center. Several of our executive members are trained FSG leaders which will allow us to run a study session for those in ANT100 level courses to prepare for their final exams.

  1. What Can Anthropology Do For You? 
    Description: This event is the first of our “What Can Anthropology Offer You” series. UTMAS will be collaborating with the Academic Skills Center to inform students of career opportunities in the field of Anthropology

  2. Anthropology FSG (Study Sessions) – ANT101
    Description: This event will be run in conjunction with the Academic Skills Center. Several of our executive members are trained FSG leaders which will allow us to run a study session for those in ANT100 level courses to prepare for their final exams.

  1. Valentine’s Day Card Sale
    Description: UTMAS will be selling unique hand-crafted anthropology themed Valentine’s day cards. By doing so, the anthropology society hopes to increase awareness of the discipline and its cause while raising funds for future student opportunities.

  2. Student Field School Symposium
    Description: This event provides students who attended an anthropological field school during the summer or previous terms to present on their experience in the field. This event will provide other students with an overview of relevant field schools for them to potentially become involved with in their undergraduate career.

    Description: This event is the second of our “What Can Anthropology Offer You” series. Prof. David Smith will speak on his research in The Caribbeans.

March

  1. Anthropology Undergraduate Conference 
    Description: This event is held so that those who completed an independent study, internship or paid work study position can present their experience and research to their fellow students. By doing so, it educates their peers in the most recent anthropological research as well as highlights opportunities for study in the future. This event will also provide students with the tools and ideas necessary to consider different future careers within anthropology. It is designed to prompt students to plan for their future and learn about how their degree can improve their personal wellbeing.

  2. What Can Anthropology Do For You? – Pottery Workshop
    Description: This event is the third of our “What Can Anthropology Do For You?” series. The event will consist of three speakers who will be sharing their research in pottery, and an interactive portion (playing with clay) aimed to solidify the learned knowledge during the final hour.

  1. Anthropology FSG (Study Sessions) – ANT101
    Description: These events will be run in conjunction with the Academic Skills Center. Many of our executive members can offer their expertise on taking the course and help student with course quizzes, tests, and their final exams by providing learning strategies and approaches.

  2. High Tea
    Description: This is a social event for members of UTMAS to mingle with one another and professors in a casual environment. Delicious pastries and desserts will provided. Please note the smart casual dress code.

  3. Annual General Meeting
    Description: The purpose of this event is twofold. The first is have a fun mingling session where members can interact with one another freely. The second is discuss society finances so that members are informed of how our decisions are made based on budgets while opening the floor to the members for feedback and improvements.

Other Ideas:
Faculty & Student Meet and Greet
Description: The purpose of the meet and greet is to introduce the faculty of the anthropology department to students completing a specialist, major or minor in anthropology. The format of the event is open dialogue where professors can explain what they specialize in, outline their research and make students more familiar with the discipline. Students can ask questions in order to learn about possible careers as well as opportunities in the department.

ROM Trip
Description: A trip to the ROM is a social event that will appeal to anthropology students. The trip sometimes includes a tour of a specific exhibit with additional information. This trip is interest pending.

End of Year Potluck Luncheon
Description: A general meeting for the incoming and outgoing executives with the faculty and staff.

The Scavenger Hunt
Description: A fun and simultaneously educational event that will allow students to compete by applying various anthropological knowledge to a series of hints, clues, questions, or tasks. Competitors will travel around the UTM campus avoiding elimination by successfully completing challenges to win a prize. This event will in held in conjunction with the Forensics Society.
